i really loved the narrative voice, both patience and patience retelling sarah's story; it was warm, and unexpectedly optimistic, and yes warm and funny (and that made casually horrifying bits, like edward getting martha pregnant until she'll die of it, stand out even more starkly), and just - lovely. i normally avoid books with period-appropriate homophobia, but it was - i don't know, a bearable, human experience? - here.
